Continuing San Antonio's great tradition of theatrical arts, The Majestic Theatre is a vision of ornate opulence and a testament to the city's unwavering support of its arts community.
Built in 1929, The Majestic was the largest theater in Texas and the second-largest motion picture theater in the country. Legendary stars that performed at The Majestic include Jack Benny, Mickey Rooney, Ann Miller, George Burns, and Bob Hope.
After a $4.5 million renovation to restore the 2,311-seat theater to its former splendor, The Majestic is now home to the San Antonio Symphony as well as Broadway Across America - San Antonio. A 1996 $3.5 million expansion has allowed the theater to hold mega-musicals, including "Miss Saigon," "Show Boat," "The Phantom of the Opera" and "Lion King."
Popular performing artists who have graced the stage include Lyle Lovett, B.B. King, Tony Bennett and Sting. Comedians Jerry Seinfeld, George Lopez and Chris Rock have also had their names in lights on The Majestic marquee.
